Protecting the Life that Sustains Us

Firefly meadows are going dark. The hum of bees is growing quiet on our farms and in our gardens. The beauty of butterflies is fading from our prairies. Darting dragonflies are absent from our waterways. We are losing animals at an astonishing rate.

Bees, butterflies, fireflies, freshwater mussels, and other invertebrates are an irreplaceable part of every ecosystem on Earth. Their abundance keeps birds, fish and mammals well fed, and humans depend on them to clean our rivers, pollinate our crops, and build our soil. Without their essential services, life on this planet would not be the same.

Established in 1971, the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation is a donor-supported, international nonprofit organization that protects the natural world through the conservation of invertebrates and their habitats. Working with partners, we have fostered the protection, restoration, and improved management of tens of millions of acres across many landscapes.

Guided by science, our team draws together experts from the fields of habitat restoration, entomology, botany, farming, education, community engagement, and conservation biology with a single passion: Protecting the life that sustains us. By supporting Xerces, you are protecting biodivesity.

Our key program areas are: pollinator conservation, endangered species conservation, and reducing pesticide use and impacts.
