At WCLI, we believe that leadership development is a holistic process that begins with self-awareness and extends to community and city engagement. Our unique six-month journey is designed to unlock the potential within each participant, equipping them with the tools and knowledge needed to make a difference.

Mission

Women's Community Leadership Initiative (WCLI) empowers women in Colorado Springs to realize their full leadership potential, break down barriers to advancement, and create a more inclusive and equitable community for all.

Many WCLI graduates have gone on to serve on nonprofit boards, launch businesses, run for public office, or take on new leadership roles in their workplace. For example: a graduate who became a state representative in her district; an alumna who launched a new speaking and coaching business; alumni who now facilitate WCLI sessions and mentor new cohorts; and others who have joined city commissions, started nonprofits, or led community healing projects. WCLI is a community-initiated leadership program that is creating a real ongoing ripple effect throughout the CO Springs community.

Background Statement

WCLI was founded in 2023 in Colorado Springs and gained 501(c)(3) status in January 2024. WCLI's Executive Director, Alana Lipscomb, has been a very active member of the community through her prior roles as Program Manager and Youth Development Coordinator for Solid Rock Community Development Corporation which provides a range of services and resources to individuals and families located in the SE quadrant of Colorado Springs. In these positions, she gained frontline knowledge about the gaps in services for underserved youth and families and determined there was a lack of programming which addressed health and well-being inequities. Additionally, her roles with Leadership Pikes Peak, Pikes Peak United Way, and the El Pomar Foundation informed her about the challenges facing primarily young women of color, those with disabilities, and who identify as LGBTQ+.
