Women in Sustainability

Why we CARE? 

Women in Sustainability (WIS) is a social and environmental justice nonprofit on a mission to CARE for the planet through Community, Advocacy, Resources and Education to create a sustainable and equitable future. We elevate women and marginalized voices focused on environment and sustainability.  

Community -  Our organization values inclusion and belonging, recognizing that diverse voices are essential for sparking real change. We cultivate an environment where individuals who may not identify as traditional environmentalists, feel welcomed, ensuring sustainability is a shared and yet, unique journey.  We provide a space for community to gather and "Just Be" for curious conversations, intentional connections and sharing stories. We also infuse humor into our work to break the cycle of constant "doom and gloom" and provide hope for the future. WIS is an organization that Gives Back to our planet through volunteer opportunities, planting trees, diverting waste from the landfill and more!

Advocacy - We advocate for the planet and believe all voices should be represented through future policy and legislation. We provide updates on current legislation and training for those seeking to be more active through our "Ready, Set Advocate" training. We connect social justice with environmental justice, recognizing that caring for the planet means caring for all aspects of our communities.

Resources - We prioritize mental health and well-being. We place a high value on self-care as an integral part of sustainability. We facilitate a collective approach, where our community and events serve to replenish rather than deplete emotional wellbeing. We redefine self-care to be authentic and diverse, recognizing that it doesn't look the same for everyone. Sharing resources and leading with a collaborative mindset prevents burnout and sustains our collective effort. From webinars to our website and our Facebook community, we provide valuable resources to support a community of eco-doers. 

Education - We must unlearn and relearn. Planetary healing requires education as the core to engaging in conversation on how to deconstruct old ways of thinking to advance to a more sustainable future. We also recognize that everything is interconnected and do not shy away from the hard conversations. We lift our community voices through our "Community Voices" series and a podcast coming in 2024. We recognize that sustainability is not a "field or industry" and must be implemented in all aspects of our lives. We strive to keep our education free so that is is accessible to all who want to be a part of the conversation and CARE.
