Women in Sustainability

WHO WE ARE:

Women in Sustainability is a member-powered nonprofit meeting the moment — turning urgency into action and community into power. We bring people together to take on climate, economic, and social justice issues in Denver and beyond, creating space for learning, connection, and movement toward a more just and sustainable future.

We exist because doomscrolling isn’t a strategy. People are craving real community, real action, and a place to put their hands (and hope). That’s where we come in. We foster environments where people feel less alone, more empowered, and activated to take action.

And yes, when the words “Women” and “Sustainability” are on the federal banned word list, we take that as confirmation we’re exactly where we’re supposed to be.

WHAT WE DO: 

We turn passion into measurable, people-powered impact through events, action, advocacy, and community building:

• Advocate for Policy Change: We show up at the Capitol, push for policy, and amplify voices fighting for environmental justice, equity, and community resilience.

• Host Events That Matter: From river cleanups and birding adventures to book swaps and documentary screenings—we create space for action, connection, and ensure that every event has an impact on the greater community.

• Center Circularity & Divert Waste from Landfills: Through clothing, book, and plant swaps, food rescue projects, mutual aid, and slow fashion events, we make circularity accessible and easy.

• Train Everyday Advocates: We equip people to influence policy and advocate for climate and social justice—no prior experience required.

• Create Third Spaces: We foster environments where people feel less alone, more empowered, and activated to take action.

• Support & Amplify Small Businesses: We host business owner mastermind groups, and support local, values-driven businesses doing the work.

• Uplift Stories & Leaders: We amplify diverse voices—from local makers to global changemakers—showing that sustainability leaders look like us.

• Infuse Joy & Humor: We take the issues seriously, but not ourselves—compost jokes, awkward climate puns, and laughter keep us going because joy is an act of resistance.
