$12,000 Goal

Our deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported WolfWood in previous years. This year we have been very busy, both in the number of animals we have saved and the amount of educational outreach programs we presented.

Both of these missions have our highest priority, but they also require resources to implement. Saving lives requires vet care, new fencing and expenses. Our educational programs are provided free of charge, even if we have to travel. We work within the community, especially in underserved areas.

These two main activities are why Colorado Gives Day is so important. The money that is generated by your kindness helps to keep these programs active and viable. Our work of saving abused animals and creating positive programs for kids is supported completely by your generous donations.

Mission

WolfWood's mission is to dispel myth and misinformation, judgment and prejudice, and to prevent cruelty and inhumane treatment toward wolves and wolf/dogs. We are dedicated to protecting their welfare by promoting an understanding of these animals in hope of dispelling fear. We believe a bridge is needed to cross over these obstacles so we can come to a place of respect with the realization that quality of life is an inherent right of all creatures.

We address these goals on a multitude of levels:

• WolfWood is a state and federally licensed 501(c) (3) non-profit refuge for wolves and wolf/dogs. We are engaged in rescue and rehabilitation, NOT breeding and selling. These special animals come to us from all over the country to where they are provided a safe haven and high quality environment for life.

• WolfWood provides a safe refuge for unwanted and homeless wolves and wolf/dogs. All animals live in large enclosed areas. No animal is ever chained. All efforts are made to provide the best physical, mental, social and psychological environment for each animal. Each wolf/dog is considered and treated as an individual with unique needs and qualities.

• WolfWood provides comprehensive information and education on wolf and wolf/dog behavior and the issues surrounding them. Seminars and educational programs are presented to schools, state parks, the general public, other animal care facilities, and various institutions. We provide information and instruction about the human behavior required when dealing with wolf/dogs. We provide service-learning projects for over forty different youth organizations and have extensive outreach programs to target at-risk youth.

Background Statement

Wolfwood was founded in 1999 shortly after accepting a wolf breed from a local schelter that was impossible to adopt. Before long Wolfwood started to receive inquires on accepting other wolves that were in need. These wolves included but were not limited to having needs able being found in drug house, or enduring severe abuse at the hands of individuals that were ill equiped to support the needs of a wild animal. Before long the original site was outgrown and Wolfwood moved to a 40 acre location in Ignacio CO. Due to the efforts of education and word getting out that a refuge of this kind exisited, Wolfwod started to receive inquires from all over the country. The largest delivery of wolves was sent to Colorado from Alaska....our Alaska 9. The development of expanded enclosures and addressing their medical needs took a concentrated effort from the volunteers, and local financial support.
