WindWalkers Equine Assisted Learning and Therapy Center

A nonprofit organization

WindWalkers Equine Assisted Learning and Therapy Center is where horses and caring professionals help families and individuals with challenges to grow and thrive in the Roaring Fork Valley from Aspen to Parachute. WindWalkers is able to serve approximately 70 participants each week ranging in age from 2 - 70 years old that live with physical, developmental, cognitive, social, and emotional challenges through a variety of equine therapy programs.

Mission

WindWalkers empowers individuals of all ages and abilities through equine-assisted therapy, education, and partnerships—nurturing healing, growth, and meaningful connections with animals, the land, and one another.

Background Statement

Across all programs, we cultivate a supportive, inclusive, and nurturing environment—one that inspires healing, growth, and empowerment for every individual who comes through our doors.

Since our founding, WindWalkers has provided a transformative approach to healing and personal growth. Participants come to WindWalkers seeking solutions beyond traditional clinics and therapies. Many face complex physical, neurological, emotional, behavioral, or psychological challenges. Through structured interactions with our PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) certified Instructors, riders build strength, develop cognitive and emotional skills, gain confidence, and form meaningful connections.

Our compassionate, highly trained staff create a space where individuals of all ages and abilities can thrive, guided by 22 dedicated therapy horses—our trusted partners in healing. With the care of our staff, participants, and volunteers, and under the oversight of veterinarians and equine professionals, our herd receives the highest standards of care and partnership.

Volunteers are essential to making our programs possible. They assist with sessions, care for horses, support participants, and help with events, creating a mutually rewarding environment where everyone benefits from connection, growth, and fulfillment.
