The Western Institute for Advanced Study supports interdisciplinary research in mathematics, physics, and the biological sciences. We issue Grand Challenges to address historically-intractable problems in these fields, and we foster highly interdisciplinary efforts to promote scientific progress. The Institute was founded in 2019 and is based in Denver, Colorado.
The Western Institute for Advanced Study is devoted to supporting scientific research. We focus on addressing long-standing problems that require fresh thinking and new perspectives. The mission and purpose of this organization is to foster highly interdisciplinary efforts to promote scientific progress, for the greater benefit of humanity.
In 2019, the Western Institute for Advanced Study was founded in Denver, Colorado.
In 2020 and 2021, we tackled our first Grand Challenge. This work involved developing models of neural computation which provide us with a deeper understanding of how the human brain generates perceptual content and non-deterministic behavioral outcomes.
In 2022, we completed the first phase of our first Grand Challenge and presented the results at scientific conferences. During 2022, we also began external fundraising efforts and raised $50,130 to support our research program.
In 2023, we launched two program goals. Our first goal is to build on the success of our first Grand Challenge, with talented research partners across the United States, by bridging this theoretical work toward systematic evaluation in the laboratory and the clinic. Our second goal is to bring together a diverse array of researchers to begin tackling our next Grand Challenge.
