Background Statement

The Colorado School of Mines is a public research university in Golden, Colorado, founded in 1874 to provide education and research for the flourishing local mining industry. Mines evolved to offer both undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering, science, and mathematics, with a focus on earth, energy and the environment, and is consistently international recognized for the caliber of its STEM education. While Mines does offer minor degrees in the humanities, arts, and social sciences, it only offers major degrees in STEM fields. Mines is committed to making world-class STEM education accessible and serves its community and Colorado by providing significant financial aid to students with need.
