At VIA, our primary focus is one-on-one relational service. We prioritize meaningful, ongoing relationships between our volunteers and the friends they support. These relationships are built on mutual respect, trust, dignity, and companionship through consistent personal connection. Our programs include:
-
Kids Hope USA – VIA partners with Kids Hope USA to bring one-on-one mentoring to children at Clayton Elementary School in Englewood, CO. Adult volunteer mentors spend one hour a week during the school day with one student building a meaningful relationship.
-
Caring Connections – VIA partners with agencies and individuals who refer us to adults in need of support. We match them with a volunteer who spends one hour a week with them in one or more of the following ways: visiting and encouraging, grocery shopping and errands, going on walks or outings together, reading for the blind, transporting to appointments, and completing organizational tasks.
-
Neighboring Initiative – VIA offers events and resources to encourage individuals and families to get to know their neighbors and develop supportive relationships with them. The goal is to create momentum in our communities where neighbors grow in their ability to notice, respond and care for those who live right around them.
Testimonials
VIA matched Reese and Audrey a year ago, and they’ve become like family to each other - celebrating birthdays together and sharing in life’s moments both big and small. Audrey even joined a Bible study group at Reese’s church. Audrey shared, “You have no idea what you’ve started here. This has changed my life.”
Karen and elementary student Sierra look forward to their mentoring time each week - playing games, coloring and reading together. “We’ve developed a wonderful friendship!” Karen said. She, along with our other Kids Hope mentors, is helping to meet the need that all children have for healthy, consistent relationships with adults in their lives.
Gayle and Ray responded to VIA’s recent challenge to host a neighbor gathering in celebration of National Good Neighbor Day. Thirteen households showed up! People talked about how important it is to connect as neighbors. One of Gayle’s highlights was seeing some high school boys meet for the first time and fist-bump as they said goodbye.
