Mobility for Life

We are a lifeline for people who need transportation with extra support.

Seth, a young man with a developmental disability, smiles at the camera with hands stretched out wide like an eagle! There are colorful balloons behind him.Via’s accessible transportation services help people with mobility limitations — such as older adults and people with disabilities — participate in everyday activities outside the home. We go beyond taking people door-to-door in wheelchair-accessible vehicles. Our uniquely trained drivers take clients door-through-door, ensuring passengers exit their homes and are received at their destination safely.

That means you can rest assured your grandparent with dementia will be checked into the doctor’s office. Or your parent using a wheelchair will be assisted on and off our vehicles. Or your daughter with autism will be treated respectfully and compassionately to and from her workplace.

Mission

Via Mobility Service's mission is to promote independence and self-sufficiency for people with limited mobility by providing caring, customer-focused transportation options.

We envision a future where all people, regardless of age, health, disability, income, or ethnicity, have easy access to the mobility options they need to enhance their independence and quality of life.

Background Statement

Via Mobility Services was founded in 1979 to fill a glaring gap for people with disabilities: the lack of safe, accessible transportation. Originally named Special Transit, the nonprofit organization provided the first wheelchair-accessible, door-through-door transportation services in the Boulder County area. With funding support from the Boulder County commissioners, Via initially served 200 people with mobility limitations. Today we serve more than 3,500 clients with 135,000 trips annually.

Via's ridership has grown by 37% in the last ten years, indicating a profound and growing need for the kind of services Via provides. We’re receiving more than 300 new client requests per month. Via is headquartered in Boulder with a second facility in Denver.

Via also partners with local municipalities and organizations to bring transportation to areas that would otherwise be without. Sometimes these partnerships focus on transportation for people with disabilities. Other times the routes are open to anyone in the service area. Revenue from these partner contracts helps fund a portion of the higher-cost paratransit services we were founded to provide. These routes include FlexRide, the HOP, the Lyons Flyer, and The Climb.

Via Mobility Services is proud to provide transportation services that move people back to the center of their community.
