Background Statement
Velocity Recreation was founded in 2017 to create affordable, community-centered opportunities where children and families could connect through sports, enrichment, and outdoor experiences in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Many families—especially homeschool families—struggle to find accessible programs that provide both meaningful social connection and recreational opportunities without excessive cost or highly competitive pressure. Velocity was created to fill that gap by offering inclusive, low-cost programs focused on participation, confidence-building, and community.
What began as a small group of families coming together for recreational activities has grown into a thriving nonprofit now serving more than 300 children each year through sports leagues, outdoor adventures, enrichment programs, and special events across Colorado.
Velocity Recreation is powered primarily by dedicated parent volunteers, allowing the organization to keep programs affordable while fostering strong relationships between families. The organization intentionally creates spaces where children of all backgrounds and skill levels feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged to grow.
Through programs such as soccer, softball, track and cross country, kickball, creative writing contests, rock climbing, trapeze, and enrichment activities, Velocity helps children build confidence, develop friendships, stay active, and discover new interests in a positive and encouraging environment.
As the organization continues to grow, Velocity remains committed to its founding mission: creating accessible opportunities where children can develop skills, confidence, and lasting community connections through shared experiences.
