Veterans Community Project (VCP) of Longmont is part of a nationally recognized nonprofit dedicated to fixing Veteran homelessness through transitional housing and comprehensive support services.
Each holiday season, Lisa’s home is known for glowing with festive lights that brighten her Colorado neighborhood. But this year, she’s shining a different kind of light—one that reaches beyond her front yard. Instead of her annual display, Lisa chose to “light up the lives of Veterans.”
Her inspiration began decades ago, with her family’s legacy of service. Her father, Clyde, and her Uncle Gilbert were farm boys from Broomfield who volunteered for the Navy during World War II. Clyde even witnessed the Japanese surrender aboard the USS Missouri in 1945. Later, another uncle, Lester, served as an aircraft mechanic in the Marines. When Lisa once asked Uncle Lester why he chose to serve, he simply replied, “It just seemed like the right thing to do.”
Those words stayed with her. And this year, instead of paying to have her home decorated for the holidays, Lisa gave that money to Veterans Community Project of Longmont.
“I just feel in my heart that I want to make this donation in honor of my family’s service to our country,” she shared. “Every Veteran is my hero.”
Her generosity has already sparked something beautiful—and thanks to early supporters like Lisa, Colorado Gives Day giving is already shining bright.
Every day at VCP, Veterans find safety, healing, and belonging. Like Patrick, who arrived at the Village carrying a single bag of books—his personal library and the only thing he held onto through years of instability. With time, space, and community, he found more than housing—he found himself.
This season, Patrick will share his journey in a special way—culminating on Colorado Gives Day at our annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony at the Village, where he will perform an original song about courage and stepping into one’s purpose. It’s a powerful reminder of what your support makes possible.
And now, you can help that light continue to grow.
From November 1 through December 9, Colorado Gives Day donations go even further thanks to more than $1 million in statewide bonus funds. Plus, if you start a new monthly gift, your first month will be matched up to $100. And here at Veterans Community Project, every gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $8,000—doubling your impact for local Veterans.
Last year, our community raised more than $30,000 during Colorado Gives Day to help Veterans find safety, hope, and home. This year, with your support, we can make it our brightest yet.
Together, we can help every Veteran find home, find community, and keep Colorado shining a little brighter for those who’ve served.
Veterans Community Project (VCP) is dedicated to supporting every individual who took an oath to serve our country while simultaneously working to solve Veteran homelessness.
Veterans housing Veterans, armed with the strength and support of the community!
VETERANS COMMUNITY PROJECT is a 501(c)(3) organization founded by a group of combat Veterans in Kansas City, Missouri who resolved to stand in the gaps of a broken system that left too many of their brothers and sisters behind. VCP is on a mission to end Veteran homelessness across the country.
VCP Village is a specialized community of tiny homes combined with on-site, wrap-around support services. With the peace and security of their own homes, Veterans work closely with specially-trained case managers to overcome challenges related to health, employment, financial stability, and social isolation. The ultimate goal: permanent housing and the skills to ensure a better future.
