It is the mission of the Valley Humane League provide education to San Luis Valley residents regarding spay and neuter benefits, animal restraints, and appropriate pet treatment.
Valley Humane League was established in Estrella, CO (seven miles south of Alamosa) in 1981. After a brief period of inactivity, it was resurrected in 2013 in a different location (west Alamosa) with a new Executive Director and new slate of board members. In summer 2020 the Denver Dumb Friends League took over the animal shelter, so as of that date VHL is no longer affiliated with the shelter.
