Mission

Valley Beit Midrash (a global center for learning and action) is a forward-thinking, pluralistic not-for-profit organization rooted in Jewish ethics that is committed to improving lives in our communities through Torah learning, social action, and leadership development.

We are:

Forward-thinking – VBM anticipates and envisions post-modern Jewish life and collaborates to invent the path forward;

Pluralistic – VBM’s tent is a big one, inviting all Jews as well as other faith groups and people of good will to build community and learn from one another;

Not-for-profit – VBM is a 501 c(3) organization; contributions are tax-deductible;

Rooted in Jewish ethics – VBM is firmly rooted in our commandments. We act ethically in all areas of life as demanded from the mitzvot;

Committed to improving lives – This is the lynchpin of VBM – improving lives in our communities…rooted in Jewish ethics, through….

Torah learning – The depth and wisdom of Torah can never be fully uncovered. We keep turning it and turning it to understand how it can continually enrich our lives;

Social action – A primary call for Torah learning is for social action – to make our communities better places to live, to translate our learning and reflection into action, bringing heaven to earth; and

Leadership Development – The Sages teaches us that we are not required to complete the work, but neither are we allowed to desist from it. VBM is committed to passing the torch through example and mentoring so our work can continue from generation to generation (Pirkei Avot 2:21).
