Urban Servant Corps

A nonprofit organization

A place to belong. A welcoming and affirming community. An opportunity to serve. If these values are important to you, consider sharing your generosity with the Urban Servant Corps community!

At Urban Servant Corps, we believe that we need one another -- and that it is in community that we are able to live more simple lives, more faithful lives, and lives that are in service to one another. This plays out as we welcome young adults to live in an intentional community house and serve at a direct service non-profit organization.

Testimonials

"I grew and learned so much about myself, my boundaries, the way I perceived others, how I dealt with conflict, and how I experience life. It was the intentional community experience that changed my life. I learned a lot about compromising, pulling my weight, and sharing space with people who start out as complete strangers. I could have never become the person that I am without being place in a situation where I would live, grow, and love seven people who I couldn't choose and probably would not have chosen before this experience."

"My non-profit experience with Urban Servant Corps is, I believe, the reason that I have been able to get other jobs in non-profit work. IT was a huge jumping point towards a career after not having work experience in college. I had the opportunity to go to work each day because I wanted to, not being motivated by a pay check was a freeing experience. I think everyone should try it! After USC, I found employment in a field that I enjoy and am good at. USC expanded my passion for loving and serving all people."

Mission

Urban Servant Corps is a faith-based, intentional community of full-time volunteers who seek to live simply while serving and accompanying those most in need at non-profit partner agencies in the heart of Denver.

Background Statement

Urban Servant Corps was founded in 1987 as a result of discussion within the local Lutheran community. Central Denver neighborhoods faced the common problems of large urban areas: poverty, homelessness, crime rates, and domestic violence, to name a few. Ministries and non-profit organizations were formed to address these issues, but their resources were usually insufficient to meet the existing needs. Providing the structure for this intentional community enabled Urban Servant Corps volunteers to translate the principles of their faith into action, and provided a way for partnering non-profit agencies to stretch their valuable resources and provide more and higher-quality services to the community.
