Spiritually dark; enslaved by traditions of witchcraft, idol worship and voodoo practiced for generations; Hevie; a small village in Benin; West Africa is about to CHANGE from its age-old thoughts!
For the FIRST TIME EVER a school has come to the children of Hevie! Josue Akowanou and his Hope for Youth Team want to pierce that darkness with the Light of the Lord. 23 students with tear-filled eyes came to the school on its first day in September: they had never been away from their parents, and were very afraid of what SCHOOL even meant! Comforting teachers met them, encouraging them to come into the classroom: the adventure of their first EXCITING DAY awaited them!!! Yeah! They have continued to come back for more! These young minds are already learning to work hard and desire more for their futures through their own efforts!
Grades K 1, K 2, and First Grade are opening the doors of reading and writing to these students, in their own language! Standards will be held high, as in Cotonou, where God’s Grace for Kids, a K-12 Christian school, has a 100% pass rate on national exams!
The only way out of poverty for the village people is education. Plans are formulating to open a new school in a chosen village across Benin for each of the next 10 years, using the Cotonou School as their model! That school will have its first graduates in 2027!

Josue Akowanou has a huge heart for the youth of Benin. They need education to learn skills and increase their abilities to be productive in the workforce. They need character training to defeat the corruption of their society. They need support and encouragement to be their best. Josue's Hope for Youth Foundation aspires to mature them into outstanding citizens with integrity to bring their country into the 21st century.
