About TruNorth Foundation

Empowering Community & Culture for Lasting Change

At TruNorth Foundation, we believe that meaningful transformation begins with community and culture. As the nonprofit arm of TruNorth Institute, we are committed to amplifying the voices, resilience, and leadership of Afro-Indigenous and People of Culture through programs that drive systemic change, cultivate well-being, and inspire purposeful growth.

TruNorth Foundation is a dedicated 501(c)(3) organization that supports grassroots initiatives with access to transformative training and skill-building, empowering communities to lead and thrive. Our mission is anchored in the wisdom of our ancestors, promoting equity, inclusion, and holistic wellness across every endeavor.

Our Approach: Cultivating Purpose and Leadership

Through community empowerment, collaborative learning, and leadership development, we aim to foster resilience and collective action. From health and wellness challenges to fellowships inspired by the legacy of historical reconstruction, we invest in programs that uplift community leaders, connect resources, and advance sustainable impact.

Our Work in Action

At TruNorth Foundation, our commitment to transformative community work has led to powerful accomplishments across education, wellness, and leadership development. Here are some highlights of our work in action:

  • Community Challenges and Retreats - Our retreats and challenges engage diverse community cohorts in transformative, multi-week experiences focused on building essential life and wellness skills. Through structured activities and TruNorth's proprietary curriculum, participants are encouraged to cultivate healthy habits, including growth mindset and mindfulness practices, personalized fitness regimens, balanced nutrition, all from the lens of holistic and culturally-informed practices.  Each program concludes with an in-person retreat or celebration, providing a meaningful capstone to their journey.

  • The TruNorth Network: In collaboration with a dedicated network of healers, coaches, and entrepreneurs of color, we offer participants access to a broad range of holistic, culturally resonant, and non-Western wellness practices. These programs are available at little or no cost to ensure accessibility for all community members, and also provide opportunities for emerging entrepreneurs and business-owners of color to flourish within community.

  • 'One Tribe' Family Freedom School - an interdisciplinary, research-based curriculum built on an ethic of decolonization and humanizing education.  Begun in 2019, Freedom Schools builds literacy skills for students in early childhood education through high school.

Mission

TruNorth Foundation, the dedicated 501(c)(3) nonprofit arm of TruNorth Institute, empowers community-centered initiatives through holistic healing, leadership development, and strategic philanthropy. We are committed to creating lasting, transformative change by uplifting Afro-Indigenous and People-of-Culture—individuals who reconnect with their ancestral roots and transcend the social construct of race.

Through a blend of accessible and culturally grounded programs and services, we foster self-empowerment, disrupt systems of oppression, and promote cultural reconnection. Together, we are building new pathways for equity, economic empowerment, and collective healing to drive a more just and inclusive future.

Background Statement

TruNorth Foundation was established as the nonprofit arm of TruNorth Institute to address the deep, systemic inequities faced by Afro-Indigenous and People-of-Culture communities. The name "TruNorth" symbolizes aligning with one's true purpose and navigating life based on an internal compass, guided by personal and cultural values rather than external influences. It reflects the Foundation’s commitment to empowering communities to find their authentic direction and build pathways toward equity, resilience, and holistic well-being.

Born out of a commitment to providing culturally grounded care and holistic solutions, TruNorth Foundation seeks to bridge the gap between traditional Western systems and ancestral healing practices. Our work is informed by years of experience in community advocacy, leadership development, and economic empowerment. We are dedicated to creating sustainable models for personal and community growth, supporting a diverse range of programs that include human development coaching, wellness retreats, and strategic philanthropic initiatives. By focusing on the root causes of inequality, TruNorth Foundation aims to foster long-term change, creating pathways for self-empowerment and economic resilience. Through our collaborations with TruNorth Institute and other partners, we continue to drive forward a vision of collective healing and systemic transformation.
