BAM! Business Art Mentorship Youth Program empowers underserved youth through art & business mentorship with local artists in Mesa County, Colorado.  BAM! provides art lessons & supplies, mentorship, meals & mental health resources at no cost to youth or their families. Our trained volunteers and mentors build positive rapport with our youth, provide art lessons and professional support, and keep BAM! a safe and welcoming space for all youth. 

BAM! provides underserved youth ages 12-21 with opportunities to gain life & business skills participating in local festivals, markets, youth-led art shows, internships, art commissions, murals, radio interviews, art contests, podcasts & art exhibits. Local artists provide lessons for youth in a variety of fields including: painting, illustration, photography, digital art, sculpture, theater, and jewelry design.

BAM! is a safe, welcoming space where youth:

  • Form healthy peer groups
  • Connect with local artists and professionals
  • Create with and own quality art supplies
  • Connect to community resources including mental health
  • Gain life & business skills through community engagement 
  • Experience producing, planning and performing in plays, art shows, radio interviews, internships, commissions, and more!
  • Receive meals, mentorship and transportation

BAM! creates and sustains safe spaces for marginalized youth to form healthy peer groups, make genuine connections with local artists, the community and its resources.

BAM! supports and affirms marginalized youth as they:

3. develop resiliency and provide positive experiences

4. open up future possibilities and career pathways for underserved youth

Background Statement

BAM! Business Art Mentorship Youth Program began operating in Mesa County, Colorado, under Trail Lamp Youth Services, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) in Spring 2022.

Mental Health is a concern in Mesa County, with a suicide rate of near 3-times the national rate, and an overwhelming rise in teen self harm and mental health challenges.

BAM! As of Oct 2023:

● 125 youth have enrolled & participated in BAM! art club and events

● 71 local professionals have worked with youth in the BAM! program

● 2,250 individuals have been positively impacted through BAM!

Since Trail Lamp Youth Services began 2 years ago, we have provided business and art mentorship to 125 underserved youth in the Grand Valley through BAM! and positively impacted 2,250 individuals. With donations and support from the community we can continue to provide the following services to youth at no cost to them:

* Art lessons from local creative professionals

* Quality art supplies, resources and meals

* Art shows, exhibits and art markets

* Art and business mentorship and weekly art clubs

* Commissions, internships, and art field trips

* Work/study opportunities through BAM! Youth Productions
