We are a troupe of vagabond storytellers—actors, musicians, playwrights, designers, and more—crafting unconventional theatre from scratch in and around Denver, CO.
Our name is a nod to a line in PigPen Theatre Co.’s The Old Man and the Old Moon, the show that brought our group together. The “third side” (of the coin, as the line goes) represents the choice that is unexpected and yes, a bit crazy.

We write and develop our own original plays and musicals, as well as produce other new and obscure works, using creative, ensemble-driven storytelling techniques.
Founded in late 2023 and officially launched in January 2024, The Third Side Theatre Company has already made its mark on the Denver area theatre community.
The inaugural season featured an original, new play (The Legacy of Baker Street) written and directed by Brian Dowling, as well as an acclaimed run of The Old Man and the Old Moon by PigPen Theatre Company. This production, described by John Moore for the Denver Gazette as “the pleasant surprise of the decade”, earned a 2024 True West Award for Impact Musicals.
The 2025 season premiered another original work (The Princess & The Goblins), written by Kellie Fox and Brian Dowling and directed by Aaron Vega with original music by Ryan Glaser, Abdul Karim Islam, and Alexandra Seracuse.
With a whimsical, grassroots approach and a belief that constraints inspire innovation, the Third Side will continue its mission to bring new and surprising theatre to the Front Range in 2026 and beyond. Stay tuned for our upcoming season announcement!
