Testimonial from Funeral Family

From Dena, daughter.
Corporal US Army
Funeral service 10/21/16, 100th Service performed

Dad was extremely quiet about his time in the Army. Should someone talk about Korea or bring pictures he would share a story here and there. He wouldn't boast but a person could sure tell he was proud for serving his country. He showed his honor to his country by living his life serving his family, friends, and people he would just meet with commitment and dedication. It showed in his family, his work, and in his play; the way he would help people any way he could; the way he gave everything he had to this life.

Knowing the bell was forged from honor for the people who fought to defend our communities, families, and way of life; it truly meant the world to us knowing it was there to honor the man we saw defend and take care of people our whole lives. Add the Honor Bell to taps and the 21 gun salute and there is no greater way we could possibly think to tribute Dad; our own fallen warrior. A secondary special addition was having my nephew and grandpa, veterans, able to ring the bell for him.

Thank you so much to the men and woman who volunteer for this very special memory. It truly means the world to us to honor someone we loved so much in such a meaningful way.

Mission

The Honor Bell Foundation's mission is to create a community of veterans to foster public appreciation of military service and honor their fellow veterans with a proper, final tribute.

Background Statement

The Honor Bell: A Reverent Tribute to American Service Members

The Honor Bell stands as a solemn symbol of unwavering respect and gratitude, embodying the sacrifices of United States Service Members killed in action and United States Armed Forces Veterans. Cast with a singular purpose—to toll as a final honor for those who served—the Bell is a timeless tribute to the bravery, dedication, and enduring legacy of our nation’s heroes.

Commissioned and dedicated on Memorial Day 2016, the Honor Bell is the first of its kind in U.S. history. This bronze masterpiece measures thirty-seven inches in diameter, stands forty inches tall, and weighs one thousand pounds. Crafted with precision and reverence, it is tolled exclusively by veterans—each ring a profound gesture of respect and remembrance.

Forged From Honor

The Honor Bell’s motto, “Forged From Honor,” reflects its extraordinary origin. During its casting, artifacts from twelve deceased service members were blended into the molten bronze, representing veterans past, present, and future. These cherished items—forever part of the Bell—ensure that their legacy resonates through every toll. More than bronze, the Honor Bell is a vessel of sacrifice, history, and enduring honor.

A Journey of Dedication

In May 2016, these artifacts were escorted from Denver, Colorado, to the foundry in Cincinnati, Ohio, by the Patriot Guard Riders and other patriotic organizations. Each state transfer was marked by solemn ceremonies, uniting communities in reverence for our fallen heroes. The Verdin Company cast the half-ton Bell to the Foundation’s exacting specifications.

Once complete, the Bell journeyed home to Colorado. Representatives of the Honor Bell Foundation and the Bell Honor Guard traveled with it, presenting the Bell to communities along the way—sharing its meaning, its mission, and its promise. On Memorial Day 2016, at Fort Logan National Cemetery, the Honor Bell began its sacred duty to honor veterans with dignity and respect.

In November 2025, we marked our 8,000th toll.

A New Chapter: The Pikes Peak Honor Bell

Thanks to the extraordinary support of our community, as of November 2026, the Pikes Peak Honor Bell (Bell #2) is now fully operational.

This second Bell stands ready to serve families across Southern Colorado, expanding access to dignified final honors and ensuring that no veteran waits for the tribute they deserve.

With two Bells now in service—one at Fort Logan National Cemetery and one at Pikes Peak National Cemetery—we are able to meet a rising need and reach more families than ever before. Every toll rendered is a promise kept: that their service will never be forgotten.
