Escalating Cost of Living

In Colorado, we have seen a dramatic rise in the cost of living in recent years, with skyrocketing expenses for housing, utilities, and other essentials impacting residents across the board.

Today, in Jefferson County, a single adult without children needs an estimated $55,932 per year before taxes just to cover basic expenses, and this burden only grows for families. Persistent inflation and escalating housing prices leave little margin for most, intensifying the need for reliable access to food and essential resources.

What We’re Seeing at The Action Center

Our team has been committed to meet the surging demand for food and essential resources. We are, unfortunately, not immune to the very issues we try to address. This year has brought significant challenges for vulnerable families across the Denver Metro area. With increasing demand for essential resources, the Action Center is adapting and innovating to address critical gaps, ensure our programs meet community needs, and maximize impact now and into the future.

At this year's School Supply Drive event, 348,000 worth of school supplies were provided to Jefferson County students.Federal changes are creating real consequences, and the timing couldn't be worse—more families need help than ever before. The Action Center is facing them head-on. In response, we’ve had to make tough, strategic decisions to ensure we can continue meeting community needs.

What Your Gift Can Do

This Colorado Gives Day, your support matters more than ever. Recent cuts to USDA food assistance and the elimination of key grants have left many families struggling to put food on the table. Reductions to SNAP benefits and stricter eligibility requirements have further deepened food insecurity across our communities. On top of that, the ongoing risk of government shutdowns and federal workforce shifts threatens the stability of critical programs that thousands rely on. This is where your support can make a transformative difference.

The Action Center is one of the largest and most comprehensive providers of free food, clothing, and other support in the Denver Metro Area, and the community is counting on us to meet the need. As resources shift, we remain nimble, creative, and ready to adjust so that we can continue to serve those who need us most. With rising costs and reduced food donations, your gift not only fills our shelves but also strengthens our capacity to adapt to increasing demands and sustain essential programs—offering a lifeline to those facing hardship.

As we approach the end of the year, we humbly ask for your support to help bridge the gap between rising demand and available resources. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to building a stronger, more secure, and thriving community for all.

Your gift today, will help us change lives tomorrow.

Financial gifts to The Action Center enable us to meet our mission. All gifts, whether cash or through donated items dropped off at our dock, are tax deductible to the extent provided by the law.
