We believe in opening hearts & minds by giving youth the tools to share songs & stories. In 2022, we have continued to offer safe, in-person performing art classes. However, even with typical ticket sales & events, The Venue needs critical financial support to make the theatre stronger.
In 2020, the majority of live theatre, performing arts, and in-person community events were placed on hiatus due to COVID-19. Yet, children in the Foothills and Denver area community still crave the enrichment and socialization that live artmaking offers. The Venue Theatre Company has continued to offer children in its community performing arts programs to benefit their physical and mental well-being. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the theatre has tirelessly worked to create a strong and safe learning environment for all students.
Testimonials from 2022 include:
"In a time where theater is closed all over the country, and where connecting & growing opportunities in person are few and far between -The Venue Theatre Company and Amy Dolan Fletcher have risen to the challenge of providing not just Covid safe musical and theatrical opportunities- They have committed to the true artistic and emotional process, providing the foundation and tools to expand technical skill, to stretch beyond limitations, to truly connect with our authentic self in order to tell a story, and to express deeply from the heart - all while creating a set of needed skills in full productions taught by those who have experience on Broadway-who are bright and shining examples of entrepreneurship and expression. No one else in Colorado is offering anything close to this experience. I truly hope people will financially support The Venue now and for years to come as they rebuild the idea of how a community theater can bring people together when they need it most."- Emery Archer, Parent
“The Venue Theatre is our second home for the past 10 years. It has given my children a creative outlet and also has given them a safe space to be themselves. On top of all these great things, they have learned life skills such as public speaking , memorization, work ethic, problem solving and working cooperatively with a group. The Venue Theatre will always hold a special place in our hearts and we will always be committed to volunteering to see that this place stays open for years to come.” -Melissa Bartt, Parent
“The Venue has made us a “theater family.” All three of my girls would rather be there than anywhere else. They are learning from such talented and inspiring people. They feel encouraged and supported. It’s given them a greater sense of confidence, and they’re making great friends and having a ton of fun along the way. On top of all of that, there are amazing ways for everyone in our family to participate and help, which we love doing.” - Marni Reinstein, Parent
"My daughter loves the Venue Theatre! Thanks to Amy Dolan Fletcher for her hard work and dedication to keep this open for the kids. The Venue has been such a great place to enhance my daughter's confidence and give her the social/emotional support she needs during these isolating times. She learns more than just theatre!" - Stephanie, Parent
"As a member of the creative team, I am so honored to be a part of such an incredible community of students and teachers. Under the fearless and creative leadership of Amy and the Board, The Venue is providing a nurturing and empowering place for kids to express themselves and continue to build upon their dreams. The Venue has overcome incredible odds to keep the doors open and will continue to safely push forward for a bright and innovative future. I am so excited to see what these students accomplish in years to come!"- Marisa VerSteegh, Director/Educator
The Venue Theatre exists to provide an accepting and enriching environment for greater Denver and Foothills youth to discover, explore, and celebrate their unique and extraordinary abilities.
The Venue Theatre Company began in August 2013 when Founder Nelson Conway brought together a talented group of adult instructors dedicated to teaching important life skills to children and youth in the foothills communities through theater arts training.
In just three months, over five thousand hours of labor and $50,000 in construction materials were donated by two dozen volunteers to transform an open space into a theater while the first cast rehearsed in parks and churches. The Venue's High School program performed its first production in November 2013, followed in the spring by Middle and Elementary Program productions and another High School production.
In 2020, under the direction of new Artistic Director, Amy Fletcher, and with live productions on hiatus due to COVID-19, The Venue has pivoted to an education-based model by offering intimate dance, voice, music, scene study, and technical theatre classes. These safety aware, in-person classes encourage students to learn communication skills through physical and emotional expression as well as coping mechanisms during this unprecedented time. Students have looked to The Venue as a refuge during a time when in-person congregation opportunities are minimal, all while making attention to safety a top priority.
2022 has offered more opportunities than could have been imagined. Our High school company put on the hilarious 1970s inspired musical, Disaster! at the beginning of this year. We then put on the World Premiere of the musical World Wide Dessert Contest, and was able to perform for the writer of the show, Dan Elish. We held a summer camp that performed The Sound of Music with students that ranged from age 5-18. Our High School students recently closed The Addams Family, and will soon begin auditions for The Lightning Thief. The Middle Schoolers put on the hilarious and heart warming musical, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown! Now, our elementary, middle and high school companies are all back this season to continue to bring theatre to our community.
