We prioritize the most vulnerable populations by sheltering with low-barrier requirements, no one is turned away. With the need to offer our services to a growing needy population due to COVID, and the after effects, the need for more funds grows substantially. SH fills many gaps in other services.

Testimonials

Mission In Action Story: A young family of four: Father, Mother and two preschoolers came to us for help. The father has a full-time minimum wage job. Mother takes father to work in the family car. At noon, she picks father up at work and all enjoy an "all you can eat" meal at Shepherd's Hand. This is their main meal of the day. He is currently laid off work because of COVID-19. They get boxed foods from Shepherd's Hand weekly, as needed, which includes canned, boxed and dry goods, eggs, meat, potatoes, onions and fruits & vegetables.

Mission

The Shepherd's Hand (SH) is a Colorado non-profit corporation dedicated to providing the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the poor, the "homeless" and low income individuals in the Montrose community. Our goal is to provide individuals and families with housing, food, clothing, daytime and nighttime shelter, and assistance in transitioning to employment and life "off the streets". We desire to build long-term sustainable solutions. To accomplish our mission, we have established a community center at 505 South 2nd Street which opens at 7:00 am and open throughout the day five days a week. This is a consolidation of several locations and an expansion of ability to serve but also needs remodeling to fit our service. During this time, individuals and families can come in out of the weather, have access to showers, clothes washing facilities, hot meals, clothing, food boxes, resource referrals and life skills training as needed or desired. A phone line is available for use in job search as well as access to computers and wall lockers to secure personal items and receive mail. The Shepherd's Hand is the first responder for the homeless in the Montrose community.

Background Statement

Organized in November 2011 by a concerned citizen who formed a board of directors, each were individually burdened by the hurt they saw in their community.

The founder recognized many echelons of need in the Montrose community:

- Homelessness, resident and transient

- Low income; minimum wage workers, senior retirees, unemployed

- Veterans

- "Couch surfers", high school students, estranged from parents

- Short term "situational homeless."

The board desired to assist in this area and so Shepherd's Hand evolved.

The Shepherd's Hand, Inc. can provide these many services because of the many volunteers and financial contributions of individuals, businesses, churches and foundations. The Shepherd's Hand, Inc. has no paid staff.
