Since 2013, our faith-based, nonprofit, pre-apprenticeship program has been improving the lives of young adults from low-income backgrounds.
Throughout our 6-week program, MAP students explore all the major construction trades and receive hands-on training, industry certifications, professional mentoring, and career coaching to get real opportunities with quality companies to start the careers they want.
Master's Apprentice Program Outline
Week 1
- Classes begin! A typical day consists of two classes in the morning, followed by a lunch break, and then hands-on workshop time in the afternoon. Our staff and volunteers provide guidance and support to help ensure our students' success.
Weeks 2-5
- Classes continue, and we'll incorporate visits to active construction sites, giving students the chance to observe professionals in action. Students will see what apprentices and journeymen do, hear valuable insights from foremen, site managers, and HR directors, and gain a true sense of what these careers are like through firsthand experience.
FIT (Final Interview Training)
- Before students graduate, we’ll schedule a series of mock interviews to help practice speaking with HR representatives from companies in the trades. Students will refine their abilities to ask and answer questions and learn how to present their resumes effectively. This experience will build confidence, ensuring they approach post-graduation interviews with enthusiasm and poise. (Some of our students are even offered jobs during these interviews!)
Week 6
- In the final week of the program, students complete their classes and earn an OSHA 10 certification. We also work with them to develop a plan for your next steps, including identifying the companies you'll contact for apprenticeship opportunities.
After Graduation
- MAP is committed to supporting our graduates beyond our program. All MAP graduates have access to our Success Coach, who provides career and life counseling as they navigate their apprenticeships and build their careers.
