Now celebrating our landmark 90th season, the Longmont Chorale is a premier community choir organization based in Longmont, Colorado. We bring together a diverse, intergenerational group of 130+ volunteer singers ranging in age from 15 to over 80.
Our organization features our large, non-auditioned community ensemble, as well as Viva Voce, our select, auditioned chamber group that performs specialized, intricate repertoire. Governed by a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors and led by Artistic Director Nathan Wubbena and Associate Director Carly Neumann, our ensembles provide a vibrant musical home for local voices of all experience levels.
Under our current season theme, "From Darkness to Light," we perform a diverse repertoire of classical, contemporary, and commissioned choral works. We are proud to enrich our local arts scene through innovative musical partnerships, actively collaborating with outstanding regional organizations including the Longmont Symphony Orchestra (Beethoven's 9th Symphony - April 2024, Messiah - December 2024, 2025), the Longmont Concert Band (Afterglow – Oct 2026), and the Boulder Children's Chorale (Vision Unfolding – October 2024). To ensure our music reaches everyone, we offer broad physical and financial accessibility, including live-streaming availability for our regular season concerts.

Founding, Heritage & History: The seed for the organization was planted in the spring of 1937 when a passionate group of music-loving citizens gathered under the leadership of Albert James to perform Handel’s Messiah for Easter. Initially known as the Messiah Chorus and later the Longmont Community Choir, the group operated informally in its early decades, offering free community concerts and passing baskets for free-will donations. The ensemble entered its modern era in the late 1980s under the direction of Ray Harrison, who expanded its musical scope and formally established The Longmont Chorale Inc. as a legal 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation in August 1988. Now celebrating its landmark 90th anniversary season, the Chorale has evolved from a small holiday chorus into a premier regional arts institution that has performed diverse masterworks ranging from Carmina Burana to modern commissions, all while remaining dedicated to its founding belief in the transformative power of community song.
