Alliance Against Domestic Abuse

Like many people, we saw some rocky financial times earlier this year. In 2021, we received about $750,000 a year in federal grants. In 2026, our funding had dwindled to just $297,000. Over this past summer, our ability to cobble together solutions by increasing grants from non-federal sources like private foundations proved insufficient and we had to make some tough decisions, including cutting staff positions and reducing services. 

But, in true Chaffee County fashion, we saw our communities step up and save the day! The outpouring of support from individual donors, business partners, the faith community, and more was nothing short of amazing!! 

Now, The Alliance is building our new normal. Federal funding likely won't come back, regardless of who is in the White House. The funds we still have access to are burdensome, restrictive, and, frankly, mirror the dynamics we see in our clients' relationships. Financial abuse, social control, and gaslighting are all blatantly baked into the daily administration of these funds. 

So, it’s time for The Alliance to break up with the federal government. Your unwavering confidence and support this summer made it possible for us to begin the necessary steps to end our dependence on federal funds and move toward a community response to violence. 

We’ve been awarded the Rural Health Transformation Project grant, which provides stable funding for five years and reflects the community-based, partnership-oriented approach to violence that The Alliance envisions for our future. Through our partnership with RHTP and the Colorado Trust, we will conduct a comprehensive assessment of needs and opportunities, allowing us to address violence in Chaffee County holistically and use incoming resources efficiently and effectively. 

We will continue to address immediate safety concerns, facilitate client’s meeting their basic needs, provide counseling and forensic nursing services, and, in partnership with Chaffee County Public Health, execute violence prevention education. We will also provide training and resources for our community partners to expand the response to violence outside the four walls of The Alliance and into all the spaces where people impacted by violence engage. 

But, in order to remove our dependency on federal funding, we need to raise $300,000 over the next year. That is a BIG amount, but if we know anything after the outpouring of support we received over the last several months, it is that Chaffee County cares about The Alliance and the work we do in our communities and they are willing to show up for survivors.  By making a donation today, you are joining us on this journey toward freedom from dependence and toward holistic, community-based interventions.
