Our Mission

At the East Angel Foundation, our mission is simple and urgent: to preserve and promote East High School’s past, present, and future.  Our donors believe in East High’s human, architectural, and historical legacy—and they feel just as strongly in the school’s role as a social and educational anchor in a complicated world.

We meet real needs. We protect what matters.  And we ensure East remains a place of opportunity for every Angel who walks through its doors.

We Fill the Funding Gap

Public funding doesn’t cover everything our students and teachers need. The Foundation steps in—through private donations, grants, and community partnerships—to close that gap and keep East strong.

We Seek to Connect

East has produced generations of remarkable graduates. One of our core goals is to bring this vibrant alumni community together, reconnect them with the school, and create meaningful opportunities for engagement, support, mentorship, and celebration. When Angels connect, great things happen!

Our Pillars

These are the areas where EAF invests directly to elevate East for students and faculty:

Student Assistance Fund - No Angel is left behind.

Providing immediate, dignified support for students who need it most:

  • Fees for AP classes, field trips, athletics, and activities

  • Food, clothing, transportation, and household support

  • Partnerships with the Angel Pantry to meet real needs in real time

Faculty & Staff Grants

This fall alone, EAF awarded 35 grants totaling $80,000, strengthening the classroom and school experience top-to-bottom:

  • Classroom tools and materials not funded by DPS
  • Enhancements across arts, engineering, business, counseling, and core academics
  • Guest artists, instructors, and experiences that expand learning
  • Significant investments in East’s celebrated Arts programs

Student Scholarships — Opening Doors in 2026

In 2026, the East Angel Foundation will award a new class of scholarships to outstanding East seniors—future teachers, engineers, scientists, artists, designers, and community leaders.  Your support helps fund:

  • Need-based scholarships
  • Merit scholarships
  • Alumni-funded scholarships (including class and legacy awards)
  • New endowed scholarship programs launched this year
These scholarships change trajectories. You’re helping launch the next generation of East graduates into college and careers.

Buildings & Grounds Improvements

From upgraded counseling spaces to improvements in the Commons and Auditorium, your support creates a better learning environment for every Angel.

History & Preservation

At 150 years, East’s story is one worth protecting. Your support keeps Heritage Hall and East’s historic archives alive for the next century.

Your Donation Makes a Difference

Every dollar you give stays at East. Every dollar fills a gap that would otherwise remain wide open. Every dollar shapes the experience of current and future Angels.

This is how we honor East’s past, strengthen its present, and build its future.

Giving Activity

Mission

To support East High School in achieving its mission, to work in partnership with the school to foster community, to promote student achievement, to foster alumni relations, to expand the support base, to preserve and promote the history of the school and its alumni, to assist in preserving and improving the buildings and grounds of the school and to raise funds for the benefit of the school community.

Background Statement

The East High Angel Foundation, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization, was founded in 2002 by a group of current and former East High School parents, alumni, and community members. Knowing that that quality public education requires financial and volunteer support from parents, alumni, policy makers, businesses, and community leaders, the Foundation was formed with the goal of striving for excellence at East High by supplementing school funding and ensuring that disadvantaged students could access school programs, while continuing to meet the needs of all students at East High.

In 2010, the East Angel Friends and Alumni Association was formed when three other organizations serving the East High community merged with the Foundation, adding alumni relations, faculty support, and historic preservation of the school and its grounds to the successful student programs developed by East High Angel Foundation. The merger streamlined administrative and fundraising by eliminating redundancies while providing better coordination among the endeavors. Most importantly, the new EAFAF pooled the existing general funds of the other organizations, allowing flexibility to react to the changing needs and priorities East High students and faculty.
