Telluride Youth Lacrosse Association

TYLA has been successful in creating an open and transparent experience for parents and players by relying on our volunteers (more than 1,300 hours last year) to help keep our costs low, thereby enabling more young players the opportunity to experience Lacrosse.

Testimonials

We offer Fall Ball and Spring programs for boys and girls ages 7-18. Our coaches are volunteers, except for a small stipend for our Coordinators. Several of our coaches are not parents of players, a testament of a love for the "Healing Game". We practice at Lawson Field several days a week and play pickup Sunday evenings during the seasons and many summer nights. Our teams have dominated the mountain towns and many clubs in the Denver area, to the degree that the common talking point at tournaments revolved around "how does a town of 1,800 people do it?!"

Mission

The Telluride Youth Lacrosse Association's Mission is to deliver resources that create and support a positive and safe playing experience for all interested youth in the Telluride Region. Our primary focus is to continue to expand and promote opportunity for a diverse range of participants in Telluride and the surrounding communities, and to cultivate a high quality experience for all area youth interested in playing what has become the fastest growing team sport in the United States. It is our goal to have an inclusive, team-building program where athletes not only learn the game of lacrosse but also the life lessons of team sports, how to work with people, recognize the results from hard work, respect for others, improved academics and the joy that manages life's stress.

Background Statement

Lacrosse continues to be the fastest growing team sport in the country and Telluride is no exception. Our program has grown dramatically over the last seven seasons from just 60 kids to more than 200 players expected to participate in the upcoming 2026-7 season. TYLA is seeking financial assistance to help offset increased general operating expenses commensurate with a rapidly growing program. TYLA does not receive financial support from the Telluride High School or Telluride Parks and Recreation, and needs additional funding to buy equipment and uniforms for kids that can't afford it, pay and train coaches, and continue to make this program available to an ever increasing number of young players. Additional funding through grant support will allow us to keep registration costs at an affordable level for local families and continue to expand what has matured into a very high quality program.
