Sweet Grass Advocacy for North American Equines

A nonprofit organization

$25 raised by 1 donor

The mission for Sweet Grass Advocacy includes advocacy, education.and when necessary fundraising for at risk equines to remove them safely out of harms way.

Ideally our fundraising resources should be split between domestic and wild horses. The current crisis for BLM Mustangs and burros in the slaughter pipeline has, in 2025, has demanded most of our fundraising resources. Sweet Grass in partnership with other equine advocates has bailed, found homes and in some cases financed transport for nearly 100 mustangs and burros in 2025. Most of our fundraising has been done through social media.

Through SGA, we have been able to have abused equines seized by local authorities in cases of starvation and hoarding. We are very proactive in demanding accountability for cruelty cases across the country.

Sweet Grass Advocacy participates in educational forums and  writes narratives describing unacceptable equine practices particularly regarding the unfortunate existence of of kills pens across the US . We do this to support initiatives to eliminate animal cruelty in partnership with other organizations nationwide . Sweet Grass helps to inform and disseminate information about at risk equines through social media on a daily basis.

Sweet Grass Advocacy is a small but proactive entity administered completely through volunteer participation. 100% of funds raised go to fulfilling the urgency of our mission.

Giving Activity

Mission

The mission of Sweet Grass Advocacy for North American Equines is to provide support for at risk equines in North America through fundraising and donations to rescues and sanctuaries in good standing as well as to recommended individuals serving to prevent inhumane treatment of both domestic and wild equines in the North America.

SGA Donations promoting equine welfare and safety include but not limited to those equines in the slaughter pipeline. Additionally donations are made to private and public agencies with effective equine advocacy programs.

Through our work we hope to educate the public by promoting awareness and responsible care of both domestic and wild equines.

Background Statement

Sweet Grass Advocacy was created in 2022 with the help of a generous philanthropic donation to Director Michele Brower.

Michele is a long time Colorado horse owner whose awareness of the killpen industry in the US dictated her decisions early own to never breed or sell any of her horses. The intrinsic cruelty and criminality involved in the export of US has galvanized her commitment to increase public awareness of this industry and to work with a network of committed individuals nationwide to save as many horses and burros as possible from being shipped to Mexico and Canada for slaughter
