"Overall, the trip was an experience of a lifetime. Not only did our Spanish improve, we also made friends and helped with projects that needed to be completed"

Mission

Summit in Honduras is a humanitarian non-profit that provides outreach to impoverished families and children in rural villages in Northwestern Honduras.

Background Statement

Summit in Honduras was initially started in 2004 under the umbrella of The Episcopal Church of St John the Baptist in Breckenridge. In 2008 it incorporated and received its 501 (c) (3) exemption effective July 14, 2008. Over the years Summit in Honduras continued its Mission, taking local Summit County medical and construction teams to Honduras with a goal towards sustainability in the local villages. Over the years Summit in Honduras has built 4 schools, provided over 500 water filter pots, conducted over 50 medical training sessions and treated thousands of patients in its clinics and in the villages it serves. We have many partnerships both in Summit County and in Honduras. Locally we partner with Summit County Rotary,Red, White and Blue Fire Company and the Summit Foundation. In Honduras we partner with Manas Amigos Medical Clinic, Amigos de Jesus, a home for children, Santa Barbara, Honduras Rotary and Potters for Peace.

In January, 2016 Summit in Honduras brought paramedics and firefighters from Red, White and Blue to train local ambulance attendants on policies and procedures, as well as provide fire mitigation training for a rural children's home. In May of 2016 a team of Doctors, nurses and medical support personnel worked from a local community clinic, as well as pop up clinics in two rural villages and treated over 800 Honduras patients. In June a group of High School Rotarians had a home exchange with local students where they rehabbed school desks and learned concrete skills replacing a dirt school floor. Projects such as these will continue in 2017.
