Through education and extensive screening, we strive to place our dogs only in amazing homes. We are a 100% volunteer run organization, we rescue dogs to save them and find them incredible homes that will never traumatize and abuse them again. Our commitment is to saving dogs & spay/neuter efforts.

Summit Dog Rescue has successfully placed many hundreds of dogs over the years. On the website we have highlighted many of those happy placements:

Giving Activity

Based in Boulder, Colorado, our mission is to save dogs from kill shelters and to educate the general public about the plight of homeless dogs, the critical importance of spay/neuter and the revolutionary understanding in canine cognition and how this applies to our family pets.

Summit Dog Rescue, Boulder, Colorado, is a 501c3 rescue dedicated to a mindful, holistic, thorough approach to rescuing great dogs (and an occasional kitty) and adopting them into exceptional fur-ever homes.

We tend to focus on "mountain dogs" - dogs that thrive at elevation and are just as happy hiking in lodgepole forests as swimming in creeks. We call them, "Dogs With Altitude!"

Our goal is NOT high volume dog adoptions, but rather to rescue great dogs and find them incredibly well matched, loving, committed forever homes.

We focus on our dogs and adopters learning basic life skills, using only force free/positive-reinforcement training.

Background Statement

We have been rescuing dogs for almost a decade. The Founder/Director of Summit Dog Rescue is Emily Wolf, KPA-CTP, CPDT-KA, who also owns and operates Brilliant Pup. Emily has always loved dogs, and inspired by her passion for saving dogs from death row, founded the Boulder based Summit Dog Rescue in 2009. After years in rescue work, she realized that saving the lives of dogs is only half the battle, we need to teach them how to live in a human world.

While undertaking rescue work, Emily attended and graduated from the Karen Pryor Academy, and is a KPA Certified Training Partner. She also holds a certificate as a Trainer and Behavioral Specialist from the Misha May Foundation in Denver. She also is certified as CPDT -KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Assessed).
