We are the Summit County Pet Food Pantry, initiated in July 2024. We grew from the recognition of a need to create an equitable distribution of pet food to pets and their families presently in need and to increase the quantity of pet food available for this distribution.
We initially partnered with the local human food pantries by adding pet food to their inventory. We continued supplying pet food to the Animal Shelter food locker. Since our initiation, we have expanded the distribution of pet food to the Colorado Mountain College, the Summit County Nonprofit Medical Clinics, the Food Bank of the Rockies Mobile Food Pantry, and the Park and Lake Counties food pantries.
We receive generous supplies of pet food from our partner, the Colorado Pet Pantry in Denver. We also receive pet food donations from the community and local businesses. Cash revenues are obtained from community members, Grants, and fundraisers. These funds allow the purchase of pet food from Costco and our local pet food businesses.
We now rent a storage unit from which we can sort the pet food, re-bag larger bags, and from which we can distribute more efficiently.
Most deliveries are made twice a month. More funds would allow us to deliver more food more often, which the clients state they are requiring.
Surveys of the clients and pet food pantry staff and managers note great satisfaction and love the initiative. Clients are very pleased to have the support to feed their pets.
Our goal is to FEED THEM ALL and keep pets with their families and out of the Shelter.
