Background Statement
SpeakUp ReachOut is a group of individuals (including law enforcement, not for profit agencies, mental health providers, first responders, school representatives, etc.) dedicated to suicide prevention education and providing resources for those in need. SpeakUp ReachOut was formed in 2009 in response to the tremendously high rate of suicide in both Colorado and Eagle County. A small group of organizations came together to work on preventing suicide, which became a community-wide coalition to address the problem. Monthly meetings brought numerous agencies and individuals together to develop programs to increase prevention strategies and awareness. Expertise has been brought in from both the national and state levels to assit in forming a sustainable coalition.
SpeakUp ReachOut has a passion and commitment to reducing the number of suicides in our county through prevention, intervention and loss support services.
SpeakUp ReachOut received its 501c3 status in 2014 and is comprised of a Board of Directors and five full-time staff members. We work closely with many other Eagle County nonprofits and organizations. Many of our Board members also represent agencies including, but not limited to: Avon Police Department, Eagle County Sheriff's Office, Eagle County Paramedic Services, Mind Springs Health, My Future Pathways, Eagle County School District, Your Hope Center and Vail Health's Eagle Valley Behavioral Health.
We partner and collaborate with the Total Health Alliance, Colorado Department of Public Health, Suicide Prevention Coalition of Colorado, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention - CO Chapter and surrounding county suicide prevention coalitions.
