Testimonials

"The Boulder Chamber is honored to have served as a premier sponsor and wall partner for the inaugural Street Wise Mural Festival. Leah Brenner Clack expertly guided the process, which was smooth, exciting, and highly collaborative. Today, the Chamber is home to an inspiring mural [created by renowned Colorado artist Armando Silva] that is a source of pride to our 1,300+ members and all who work at the Chamber Center. Community feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and we hope that more businesses will partner with Street Wise in the years ahead to bring meaningful, accessible and quality art to Boulder. " John Tayer, President Boulder Chamber

Background Statement

Street Wise Arts was founded in 2015 (originally under the name And Art Space) with a mission to bring more public art and opportunities to artists in Boulder and to provide more opportunities for connections through public art. In 2015, public art was sparse and unbalanced within the CIty of Boulder and many in the community did not feel connected to the visual urban landscape as representative to their own identity. In 2016 we launched our youth programs for high school students exploring social justice and identity through public art.

2019 was pivotal as we expanded our mission to prioritize social justice within the content of our projects as well as diversity, equity and inclusion among artists, audience and staff. We launched "Street Wise Boulder," a mural festival centered around ARTivism (Art + Activism) to highlight and support racial equity, cultural diversity and community connections. We prioritize giving opportunities and platforms to historically underrepresented and marginalized populations including artists of color, women and LGBTQIA. We bring programs into neighborhoods, schools and communities that are historically marginalized. Street Wise Arts formed as a 501c3 in 2020. Our board of directors consists of 8 women from different backgrounds, including race, age, and socioeconomic status. All board members are connected to arts, education and activism in some way outside of their service on the Street Wise Board of Directors.
