Mission
St. Mary's Academy fosters excellence in each child through academic achievement, spiritual development and service. The Loretto School values of faith, community, justice and respect provide the foundation for students to be powerful agents of change.
Background Statement
In August of 1864 St. Mary's Academy for girls opened with 20 students. In June of 1875 St. Mary's Academy issued the first high school diploma granted in the Colorado Territory to Miss Jessie Forshee. During the 2014-2015 school year, we celebrated our 150th consecutive year of academic excellence.
Currently St. Mary's Academy is organized into three divisions: Lower School (co-ed Junior Kindergarten through grade 5), Middle School (co-ed grades 6-8), and High School (all girls, grades 9-12.) From the beginning. St. Mary's Academy has welcomed students from all religious, ethnic and economic backgrounds. 30% of our students are from families of color. The school enrolls Muslim, Jewish, Hindu and B'hai students as well as those from Christian religions. In our pursuit of excellence, St. Mary's Academy holds membership in professional organizations. We are a member of the National Association of Independent Schools and are accredited by the Association of Colorado Independent Schools. The High School is a member of the National Coalition of Girls Schools.
