The SMA Fund is the cornerstone of St. Mary's Academy's annual fundraising efforts, providing necessary funding above and beyond tuition to ensure a preeminent educational experience, focused on three priority areas of impact:

Faculty Excellence and Distinction

  • Attracting, retaining, and developing top-tier teachers who deliver inspirational educational experiences and instill a sense of purpose, curiosity, and ambition in SMA students.
  • Examples of this priority area in action might include professional development, faculty bonuses, recruitment, and ensuring low student-teacher ratios.

Elevated Academic Enrichment

  • Sparking students’ curiosity beyond the classroom through enhanced course offerings, programmatic innovations, STEAM curriculum, and experiential learning.
  • This might include STEAM initiatives, MakerSpaces, enhanced course offerings, experiential learning, field trips, enhanced programmatic innovations, and more!

Signature Student Experience

  • Nurturing the whole student through investment in the arts, athletics, leadership, clubs, and adventures.
  • This priority area in action could include athletics enhancements, clubs, student trips, musicals and plays, field days, and more.

By making a gift this Colorado Gives Day, you support the entire St. Mary's Academy community. Thank you in advance for your support!

Mission

St. Mary's Academy fosters excellence in each child through academic achievement, spiritual development and service. The Loretto School values of faith, community, justice and respect provide the foundation for students to be powerful agents of change.

Background Statement

In August of 1864, St. Mary's Academy for girls opened with 20 students. In June of 1875 St. Mary's Academy issued the first high school diploma granted in the Colorado Territory to Miss Jessie Forshee. During the 2024-2025 school year, we celebrated our 160th consecutive year of academic excellence.

St. Mary's Academy is organized into three schools: Lower School (co-ed PreSchool through grade 5), Middle School (co-ed grades 6-8), and High School (all girls, grades 9-12.) St. Mary's Academy is composed of students from all religious, ethnic and economic backgrounds. St. Mary’s Academy offers approximately $2.4 million in need-based tuition assistance for children in grades Kindergarten through High School. Approximately 20% of our student body receives financial aid.

In our pursuit of excellence, St. Mary's Academy holds membership in professional organizations. We are a member of the National Association of Independent Schools and are accredited by the Association of Colorado Independent Schools. The High School is a member of the National Coalition of Girls Schools.
