Meet Dominic, Jamie, and Tim

Your gift to St. Francis Center changes lives every day. Here’s how:

Dominic’s Story: Outreach That Opens Doors

Dominic spent years living on the streets, disconnected from resources and hope. After a childhood marked by trauma, foster care abuse, and untreated medical needs—including vision loss—he was afraid to speak up.

SFC’s Outreach Team met Dominic twelve years ago and helped him secure housing through DHA’s permanent supportive housing program. In 2017, he moved into his own apartment. In July 2024, after five years of persistence, he became a homeowner.

“Being seen, supported, and believed in changed everything.” – Dominic

Dominic now has stable housing and a job at FedEx, with hopes of working in criminal justice—the degree he earned while unhoused.

Jamie’s Story: A Turning Point by the River

In April 2025, Jamie met Tanner and Angel from SFC’s outreach team by the river.

“I made a decision that day by the river. And it saved my life.” – Jamie

Their compassion helped her enter detox, inpatient care, and sober living. She found employment and was promoted to General Manager at a local gas station. Now six months sober—the longest since age 11—Jamie is reconnecting with her children and grandchildren. She was present for her grandbaby’s birth and is embracing her role as a grandmother.

Jamie’s story is a testament to sacred companionship, personal courage, and the possibility of renewal.

Tim’s Story: From a Trash Bag to a Fresh Start

Tim’s journey began at SFC’s Day Center, where he found more than showers and mail—he found hope.

“I got to the point where I knew I was going to die out here,” he recalls.

Battling addiction, health challenges, and homelessness, Tim lacked insulin, shelter, and support. At the Day Center, he accessed hygiene supplies, clothing, mail services, and storage. Staff helped him get glasses, medical care, and housing. Volunteers offered encouragement—and even a Bible that reminded him of purpose.

When Tim moved into his apartment at St. Francis Apartments West, he arrived with a trash bag of clothes. That night, he won Tupperware in bingo—a small victory that meant he could store food for the first time. Then, Time won a waffle maker!

“I felt amazing when I made my waffles. I’m not going to die homeless.” – Tim

Today, Tim regulates his insulin, cooks meals, and helps neighbors. His story shows how the Day Center is more than a building—it’s a lifeline.

Background Statement

For 42 years, St. Francis Center (SFC) has delivered solutions that address homelessness at every stage, empowering individuals to achieve stability and move forward with hope. Rooted in compassion and collaboration, SFC served 12,602 individuals in 2024, helping them take meaningful steps toward stability and long-term housing solutions. As a multi-service organization, SFC focuses its efforts on four key areas: day shelter services that meet immediate, basic needs; housing solutions that offer barrier-free permanent supportive housing and short-term, non-congregate shelter; employment services that foster economic mobility; and outreach to individuals living unsheltered in the community.

We believe in an individualized, evidence-based approach to ending homelessness. Decades of research affirm that the most effective path forward combines safe shelter with affordable housing and adaptive, comprehensive supportive services, including a full spectrum of treatment options. In 2024, SFC made 366 housing placements and currently owns and/or supports over 300 housing units across the Denver metro area. With a 97% housing retention rate, SFC offers more than just shelter. We provide case management, life skills training, and a community of care. By addressing the root causes of homelessness, SFC helps individuals move toward lasting stability, independence, and well-being.

SFC's Day Center is a lifeline for individuals experiencing homelessness, offering a safe, welcoming space during the day when few other options exist. More than just shelter, the Day Center provides access to essential resources like showers, clothing, secure storage, mail and phone services, family reunification, and transportation assistance. Guests can also participate in wellness activities, connect with wraparound services, and receive job readiness and employment support—all under one roof. It’s a place of dignity, stability, and opportunity, helping people take meaningful steps toward self-sufficiency and housing. This supportive space serves over 500 individuals each day. In 2024, SFC helped more than 10,000 people move toward greater stability and dignity.
