The Space Science Institute is a science research & STEM education nonprofit, bringing together world-class scientists and educators in space, Earth, & planetary science discovery and human exploration. Your donations will help to provide for & produce an educated citizenry and science workforce.

Our patrons LOVED the exhibit while it was here, and have been very enthusiastically attending related STEM programs that we have planned since then.

We're getting more families here than we normally would. I've noticed that we're getting a lot of dads coming in with their kids that we don't see very often. We'll see them engaging and playing and having a lot of fun.

Having hands-on things in the library is the way things are moving and needs to move, and will happen more and more. Having that opportunity to interact and play with something new, really gives the books more meaning.

The Space Science Institute is shaping our future by enabling scientists to advance our understanding of Earth and the Universe; increasing science and technology literacy for people of all ages and backgrounds; and inspiring youth to pursue science-technology education and career opportunities.

Background Statement

Space Science Institute (SSI) is a 501(c)(3) research and education nonprofit that harnesses the power of discovery to engage the public in science.

As humans, we are driven by exploration. We are fascinated by questions about our place in the universe: Are we alone? Might we someday live on other planets? What is the nature of our universe and what can it tell us about life?

There are few things that capture our imaginations more than the mysteries of space and the wonders of our own planet. The excitement of space science offers a compelling hook for engaging the public in science and inspiring a new generation of innovators.

SSI was founded in 1992 with a vision to expand our understanding and appreciation of planet Earth, our Solar System, and the universe beyond. Society benefits from the pursuit of new knowledge - the more we understand planetary systems and star forming regions, the more we understand our own planet.

SSI is a leader in creating innovative, relevant, and far-reaching models for Earth and space science research, public science literacy and STEM education. Through STEM focused exhibits that have reached over 2 million visitors, a network of over 8,000 public library members and subject matter experts, and engaging with over 7,000 participants in research and educational webinars, SSI is empowered to bring easy access to science, engineering, technology, and math content to Colorado and communities across the nation. We believe that science is for everybody and our projects have a special focus on reaching people that have been historically underrepresented and underserved in STEM.

We conduct world-class scientific research and use the wonder of that discovery to inspire a broad population. From the upcoming Eclipses, to the new Artemis Mission to the Moon, to Mars rovers, and more, we support all avenues of exploration that delight the minds of those young and old. Through your kind donations, we hope to make science accessible to larger numbers of people and to continue to engage, inspire, and work toward a future of discovery.
