The South Park Rec Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to strengthening recreation in our community by supporting the South Park Parks & Recreation District. Through grants, donations, and local partnerships, the Foundation helps fund facility improvements, new programs, and long-term expansion—creating more opportunities for health, connection, and enrichment for residents across South Park.
The South Park Rec Foundation is the fundraising organization for the South Park Parks and Recreation District. We are committed to obtaining grants, raising funds, and sustaining the financial well-being of the District. Our fundraising efforts will support improvement of our current facility and programs, as well as promote its expansion. We pledge to provide healthy activities and a safe space for our local families, communities, and visitors.
The South Park Rec Foundation began as the South Park Community Rec Center, Inc., a nonprofit formed with the goal to create a recreation center in South Park, Colorado. Originating from a citizen-led committee in 1993, the effort advanced when the Fanning Family donated a 4.7-acre site in 1994. The nonprofit was formally created in 1997 to fundraise and pursue grants, and in 1998 it helped promote the creation of the South Park Park and Recreation District (SPPRD), a voter-approved special district serving about 6,000 residents. Working closely together, SPCRC and SPPRD guided the project through voter approval of operational and construction funding in 2002, the selection of contractors and designers in 2003, and the groundbreaking later that year. Construction of Phase I was completed in late 2004, and the South Park Recreation Center officially opened on February 15, 2005.
