Smart Bellies Food Program strives to bridge the gap of food insecurity by providing bags of nutritious food to school aged children allowing them to get the full benefit of their education and development.
Smart Bellies was founded in August of 2018 by two friends who have a passion for serving others. Margaret and Sarah both have previous experience with similar backpack programs in cities they formerly resided and have modeled Smart Bellies after these successful nonprofits. Since its inception, Smart Bellies has grown from serving 13 children in one elementary school to supporting more than 350 families with 800 school aged children during the 2022/23 school year. Smart Bellies tackles many issues of food insecurity by delivering food directly to the homes of families in both Summit and Lake Counties.
