Seed Studio

A nonprofit organization

Seed Studio serves over 250 families of diverse socio-economic backgrounds in the Four Corners region, annually. We share scholarships with any family in need to promote the accessibility, equity, and diversity of our programs.

Seed Studio offers a pre-k program for kids ages 3-5yrs, youth and teens, after-school classes for kids in grades K-5, summer camps, parents nights out, and supplemental programs for online and homeschool. We also offer a variety of adult classes and workshops taught by local artists throughout the year. Our staff is composed of two part time employees and three part time independent contractors.

We strive to create a setting for our students to learn the importance of mindfulness practices of slowing down and being present in everyday actions. We combine mindfulness practices with process-oriented art projects to act as a vehicle to help our students learn and appreciate everything has a natural unfolding. Together these processes teach our students problem solving skills, increase self-confidence and resilency, and create a space of collaboration over competition.

Mission

Planting seeds of mindfulness, creativity, and self-expressions through ART + YOGA + NATURE.

VISION STATEMENT

Our children’s art programs are rooted in fine art principles, combined with contemporary trends, and loaded with individual expression. The significance to our programs are that we place great value in collaboration over competition. We pride ourselves on curating an innovative art curriculum that grows with each child that blends mindfulness practices with a deep appreciation for our place in the natural world.

Background Statement

The Seed Studio APPROACH

HIGH QUALITY MATERIALS

Each week we dabble with different media, blending only the finest materials with reusable and recycled materials when we can. We use high quality and real artist art materials such as oil pastels, liquid watercolors, acrylic paints, and heavyweight paper to create our artwork.

MULTIPLE UNIQUE PROJECTS

Students create original and unique fine art projects (a mix of open-ended and guided lessons). We have been known to take on some pretty ambitious projects, so clear some wall and shelf space!

LOW TEACHER/STUDENT RATIO

Each child feels encouraged and challenged as we strive to maintain a ratio of 1:8.

BENEFITS OF MULTI-AGE CLASSES

Our students have several years to develop their artistic abilities and are able to see themselves as progressive, successful creative learners. They are viewed as unique individuals. We focus on teaching each child according to his or her own strengths. Each child gets to progress at their own pace and honor where they are in his or her creative process.

The older students have the opportunity to serve as mentors and to take leadership roles. Children are more likely to cooperate than compete. The spirit of cooperation and caring makes it possible for children to help each other as individuals, not see each other as competitors.

AGE APPROPRIATE GROUPS

Students might all be working with chalk pastels at the same time but the project and/or techniques are modified for each age and/or ability.

IT'S YOUR CHILD'S ART

Yes! Your children created their own projects without the meddling pencil strokes of a teacher. It's amazing what they can accomplish with a little guidance and enthusiasm!

We are also proud of what we create and love to celebrate with an art show at the end of the week that showcases all the amazing artwork we created throughout the program.
