My name is Vivian Kubwe. I am a student in class 8 at Nyanturago Primary School. My school is one of SCOPE's training schools. My school built a library and then SCOPE provided books for the library. I have read more than 100 books from the library. While the boys are playing football, my friends and I prefer to sit in the library and read books. As a result, the girls are performing much better in English at school.
Metamaywa Primary School head teacher, Madam Monica outlines some of the key projects initiated by SCOPE International training. She says, "SCOPE has not only equipped our library but also trained the staff and community members on how to power other projects such as a tree nursery, poultry production, horticulture, and dairy farming which have generated substantial funds. The outcomes are daily provision of lunch and breakfast, as well as sanitary towels which has empowered girl child education."

SCOPE was founded in 2007 on the belief that it is better to promote self-empowerment using a person's strengths, needs, aspirations, and resources - rather than having him/her rely on charity to improve quality of life. SCOPE's comprehensive community/economic development program (Economically Sustainable School Project) utilizes the school as a focal point for community meetings and economic opportunity. It is at the schools that workshops are held, meetings are conducted, gardens are planted, trees grown and businesses of all kinds can be initiated.
Kenyans teaching Kenyans the ways to self-reliance is the ultimate goal. SCOPE is of the firm belief that this model can be replicated in other poverty-stricken areas globally.
