Schweiger Ranch

A nonprofit organization

In the 1860's three brothers emigrated from Austria and found themselves settling near what is now I-25 and RidgeGate Parkway. Over 100 years John, Joseph and Jacob Schweiger, with help from their descendants, cultivated the ranch to 4,000 acres. Over time, the ranch structures fell into disrepair. In 2004, Douglas County granted historic landmark status to the ranch which paved the way for the formation of Schweiger Ranch Foundation (a 501(c)3) and allowed the Foundation to seek grants from the Colorado State Historical Fund to restore and preserve the buildings. Now that the restoration work is completed, the Foundation has begun implementing the overall mission and vision of educational programs, community programs and will need to continue maintenance of the structures and care for the animals. So, how can you help? Schweiger Ranch Foundation is raising funds year round for educational programs, maintain the restored structures and care for the animals. Your donation is tax deductible to the extent allowed by the IRS. Thank you for for your help preserving an important piece of Douglas County history!

Mission

Schweiger Ranch provides diverse recreational and educational opportunities to foster an understanding and enjoyment of the area's cultural and natural heritage through displays, demonstrations, interpretive programs and special events for the greater community.

Background Statement

Schweiger Ranch was established in 1874 by three brothers from Austria. Over many years the brothers grew their land holdings and the ranch was eventually sold to RidgeGate in 1972. In 2001, the master planned developer of RidgeGate saw a unique and special opportunity in Schweiger Ranch and began the process to preserve it as a cultural and educational facility for the region. Douglas County granted Schweiger Ranch historic landmark status in 2004 and in 2006, Schweiger Ranch Foundation was formed to oversee the restoration, preservation and bring the long term vision to life. In 2008 RidgeGate donated 38 acres to the Foundation and restoration work began.
