San Luis Valley Habitat for Humanity

A nonprofit organization

Building Houses~Building Hope
We work with low-income households building simple, decent affordable homes. Habitat Homes are constructed with volunteers and sold with no-profit, 0% interest mortgages. Monies received from mortgage payments are the "Fund for Humanity" to build the next Habitat Home.

Habitat for Humanity seeks to make shelter a matter of conscience. We are an ecumenical Christian housing ministry working in partnership with economically qualified families to build affordable homes. Our mission is to provide affordable homeownership opportunities with people in need. We endeavor to do so in a manner consistent with the mission of Habitat for Humanity International. We seek to practice servant leadership and transparency in all of our actions, and to treat all with whom we associate respectfully and compassionately.

Background Statement

San Luis Valley Habitat for Humanity is one of more than 2000 Habitat for Humanity affiliates in the United States, internationally building in over 100 countries throughout the globe. In our quarter of a century serving the San Luis Valley, we have provided over 25 families with the opportunity of affordable homeownership with 0% interest mortgages, completed one home renovation, helped to develop community school gardens and greenhouses, coordinate an aluminum can recycling program, constructed a playground for low-income housing units and most recently opened a re-use, re-cycle, re-purpose building materials and home furnishing store on Main Street in Alamosa. Our vision is to serve 5 more families in the next 5 years, 5-in-5.
