The Rosin Club is the Centaurus High School Orchestras Booster Club organization.  In the 2025-2026 school year, it is estimated that 30% of our students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. The Rosin Club aims to make orchestra music and performance accessible and enriching to all interested students.  The Centaurus High School Orchestras operate with limited support and resources from the school district.  As a result, we are often tasked with purchasing instruments and supplies, paying for maintenance and repairs of equipment, paying for transportation to events, and more.  In addition to program support, we offer scholarships to students in need to assist with the purchase of their uniforms, instrument rentals, and sectional teacher fees.

Mission

We are the Centaurus High School Orchestras Booster Club organization. It is our mission to enhance our students' music education experience; support the orchestra director and program; and promote the school's orchestra program in the wider community.

Background Statement

The Centaurus High School Orchestras includes three orchestras: Concert Orchestra, for students entering high school, String Orchestra, our intermediate orchestra, and Chamber Orchestra, our most advanced orchestra that requires an audition to join. New and seasoned high school-aged musicians learn and play works that develop and grow their instrumental skills. Orchestra students receive supplemental teaching specific to their instrument by outside specialists throughout the school year. Orchestra students perform in three school concerts for the community and have the opportunity to enrich their experiences with participation in ensemble pieces. Additionally, students participate in judged honors orchestra events and festivals like the Boulder Valley School District Honors Orchestra, Boulder Valley School District Solo & Ensemble Festival, Western States Honors Orchestra Festival, Colorado All State Orchestra, Combined League Orchestra, Elitch Gardens Music Festival, and Winter Park Music Festival. Chamber Orchestra participates in the ASTA State Contest every spring, as well.

The Centaurus High School Orchestras are led by Mrs. Heather Murphy. Mrs. Murphy received a bachelor degree in Music Performance and Music Education from New Mexico State University where she graduated With Honors and as Valedictorian of her class in 2002. During her time there, she performed in the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra, the Doña Ana Lyric Opera, and the University Orchestra. She also assisted teaching in classes in the local schools and taught privately.

Mrs. Murphy graduated with a master degree in Music Education from the University of Colorado in 2005. During her time there, she participated in the Takacs Chamber Music Program, the University Symphony Orchestra, completed a graduate recital on the cello, and also began her education within the Suzuki Method. In 2009, Mrs. Murphy completed her long-term training within the Suzuki Method with Carol Tarr at the University of Denver. Mrs. Murphy’s public school teaching began in 2003 within the Boulder Valley School District where she has taught at various schools in the area, including nine years at Eldorado K-8 and nine years at Angevine Middle School. In addition to serving as the Director of Orchestras at Centaurus High School, Mrs. Murphy is the director of orchestras at Meadowlark School, and one of the cello faculty for Boulder Suzuki Strings.

The Rosin Club offers scholarships to students needing financial support.
