The Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Bank fulfills the wishes of eye donors and their families to help another overcome blindness through transplantation and research. We restore hope when hope may have been lost. Dedication to our mission allows eye tissue donors in Colorado and Wyoming to provide an average of 2,500 sight-restorative transplants each year.
"It has been three months since I received by corneal transplant. I have tried several times since then to put my words of thanks to paper but have stopped, feeling that my words did not express my profound gratitude of the unconditional gift of sight that I received as a result of the transplant. I will continue to live my life to the fullest as a way to honor your loved one. I will be forever thankful to this very special, selfless, and amazing person. My appreciation for this gift is beyond words as it has changed and improved my life."
- Gregg, cornea recipient
"I am Yvonne’s oldest grandson. I am very excited to hear that you received a very special part of my grandma. I’m happy you can see now, and I hope that you have a great life seeing through a great woman's eyes. My grandma did so many things. She helped others and got things for others and did things even if she didn’t have the money; she found a way. She always had time for others. She made other people happy and wanted to see them happy. When people say a person meant a lot to them, I don’t feel like they care, and I don’t exactly know how to say how much she meant to me because its hard to put into these words. She loved me with her whole heart, and I loved her back with mine. I hope I never forget her. I hope you live well."
~ Nolan (12-years-old), grandson of donor
The mission of the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Bank is to fulfill the wishes of eye donors and their families to help another overcome blindness through transplantation and medical research.
Established on August 11, 1982, the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Bank (RMLEB) emerged from a visionary initiative by the Lions Clubs of Colorado and Wyoming. Recognizing the urgent need to assist individuals whose blindness could be remedied through transplantation, these clubs set forth to make a significant impact. Their mission was clear: to help children and adults regain their sight and become active, contributing members of society. Over the past four decades, RMLEB has steadfastly pursued this mission, fostering hope and transformation through its dedicated efforts in transplantation and research.
RMLEB's mission involves not only facilitating eye transplants but also engaging in research to advance the possibilities of sight restoration. By increasing awareness about eye, organ, and tissue donation, RMLEB encourages individuals to "Share the Circle of Light." This phrase embodies the spirit of giving and the profound difference one can make through the simple act of donation.
In its unwavering dedication to its mission, RMLEB has honored the wishes of over 68,000 eye donors from Colorado and Wyoming. The organization's efforts have resulted in more than 70,000 sight-restorative transplants both locally and globally. Beyond transplants, RMLEB has also contributed to medical research, with 17,000 tissues used in studies aimed at overcoming blindness. These achievements underscore the profound impact RMLEB has had on countless lives, providing a second chance to those affected by visual impairments.
