"Rocky Mountain Flycasters Trout Unlimited is a leader in coldwater conservation in Northern Colorado..."

Mission

CONSERVING, PROTECTING, RESTORING NORTHERN COLORADO COLDWATER WATERSHEDS SINCE 1983

Rocky Mountain Flycasters Trout Unlimited (RMFTU), a 950-member chapter based in Fort Collins, Colorado, is dedicated to conserving, protecting, and restoring coldwater fisheries and their surrounding watersheds. Through hands-on restoration, youth education, and community engagement, RMFTU works to ensure healthy waters and resilient trout populations across the Big Thompson, Cache la Poudre, and North Platte river systems—for the benefit of future generations.

Background Statement

Since 1983, RMFTU has been a volunteer-driven leader in coldwater conservation throughout Northern Colorado. The chapter contributes over 6,000 volunteer hours annually to habitat restoration, native trout recovery, and watershed stewardship. RMFTU is a key partner in the Poudre Headwaters Project—the largest Greenback Cutthroat Trout restoration initiative in Colorado history—and collaborates with state and federal agencies to advance science-based conservation.

In recognition of its impact, RMFTU received Trout Unlimited’s national Gold Trout Award in 2023, honoring its leadership, innovation, and commitment to protecting Colorado’s aquatic ecosystems.
