"After being a part of Knight of Heroes for 5 years and now an intern for Rocky Mountain Ascent, the bond I have created with this group of people is like no other. The relationships that I have built with my mentors and mentees will stay close for the rest of my life. The activities that get you out of your comfort zone to facing fears that you would normally never face, have built me on the inside. The life skills that I have absorbed over the years have shaped me into the person I am today and have changed the way I see things in life. Rocky Mountain Ascent provides outdoor recreation opportunities to underserved youth, families, and young adults. We encourage youth toward self-actualization through positive adult mentorship, life-skills development, & self-challenge. We are committed to nurturing a sense of value & purpose in each individual.
Rocky Mountain Ascent is the successor of the Knights of Heroes Foundation (KOH), a nonprofit organization that was started in 2007 in response to a growing need for positive adult mentorship for Gold Star Children. In 2018, KOH began hosting day and overnight trips for children from group homes in Colorado Springs. These visits sparked a passion in KOH volunteers and graduates, who committed to expanding the program working with local youth in the foster care system. Rocky Mountain Ascent was officially established in 2022, growing each year since.
