Rock for the People

A nonprofit organization

Welcome to your local music studio! Rock for the People is for anybody who loves to play, write, record, perform, and listen to live music; all ages and all abilities. Our mission is to build an inclusive live music community by removing barriers for all could-be, would-be, have-to-be musicians (and their fans!) from historically underrepresented groups. Because there’s nothing more fun than playing in a band, and your life will be better for it.

Mission

our mission

To build an inclusive live music community by removing barriers for all could-be, would-be, have-to-be musicians from historically underrepresented groups. Because there’s nothing more fun than playing in a band, and your life will be better for it.

Background Statement

Rock for the People got started in a local music studio as a response to the lack of diversity and inclusivity in the music industry, particularly among touring bands. We decided to investigate, and found only a few of the musicians included in the "Best Artists of all Time" lists included women, people with disabilities, veterans, people of color, people from minority groups, or musicians who got started as older adults. We felt the music industry could do better. Equipped with a professional music studio and a community of folks who were dedicated to our cause, we started Rock for the People at Dog House Music Studios. We began by providing cover band lessons and music therapy services to local organizations serving adults with disabilities––and the programming took off!
