Background Statement
In the late 1980s, Lions Clubs in Colorado and Wyoming envisioned a comprehensive eye care center for the Rocky Mountain region, which lacked facilities for vision problems and eye diseases. In 1991, the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute Foundation was established to raise funds for the project.
By 2001, the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute opened at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, becoming a center of excellence in vision research, education, and care.
The Eye Institute's success is attributed to substantial contributions from Colorado and Wyoming Lions Clubs, the Lions Club International Foundation, the Kenneth Kendal King Foundation, and ongoing support from other generous donors. Today, RMLEIF continues to provide grants for sight-saving care.
