When Jimmy Lakey adopted his son, River, from the Gikondo District near Kigali, Rwanda in 2008, he made a promise to do everything possible to ensure that River's earliest friends would have the opportunity to attend school and receive the education needed. River's earliest friends in an orphanage were all placed into adoptive homes in Rwanda and the orphanage was closed.Â
Jimmy Lakey & River's Promise then committed to help children in other areas of Rwanda. Â River's Promise is focused on giving children the access to education needed to break the cycle of extreme poverty. Â Our Child Sponsorship program helps some of the poorest children in Rwanda.

When Jimmy Lakey adopted his son, River, from Rwanda in 2008, he made a promise to do everything possible to ensure that other children in Rwanda would have access to education. This led to "River's Promise", our child sponsorship, and now the launching/construction of Legacy Christian Academy in Rwanda.
