River Mist Inc

River Mist is a nonprofit organization providing high quality early care and education for 1-5 years old in La Plata County. Along with providing traditional, research based curriculum River Mist also utilizes its 6 acre outdoor environment to support the educational needs of young children. River Mist has a large garden where food for the school is grown during the warmer months. There is also an apple orchard and river area. Children at River Mist spend a good deal of time outside whether they are developing their social skills through play or observing an animal in its natural habitat. Our students go on to experience success in elementary school and many go on to participate in environmental projects when they are older. We truly believe in the outdoor environment being a teacher, and at River Mist children definitely develop a connection to all the natural wonders they witness here everyday. We are successfully connecting nature to education and our children reap the benefits of that connection!
